Evoke your senses with colour & textures

Posted on March 24 2021

Spring has officially sprung. The days are noticeably longer, and the sun is warmer and kinder on our skin, bringing with it promises of hope and new feelings of optimism. It is at this time of year we start to notice the new colour variations outside and a change in light flooding into our homes. So why not celebrate this seasonal change by taking inspiration from these vibrant colours and splashing them throughout your home.

Our brains constantly crave stimulation. It’s why we love being out in nature, with its endless variation of sights, smells and sounds. Not only is it sensory heaven; it’s mentally and physically restorative. But given that we spend about 90% of our time indoors it is crucial to ensure our interior environments are just as stimulating. Which is where we come in!

Our current predicament has inevitably led to us all spending more time at home, accentuating the important role our senses play in making us feel good in our surroundings. Does your home spark joy when you walk in the door? Whether it is seeing the beauty in a colour or pattern, feeling the softness of a material, smelling the freshness of new linen, hearing the soothing crackle of a fire or tasting the first sip of our favourite tipple, design can change your mood through colour, texture, light, scent and sound.

The room that perhaps we spend the most time in, and a place that unavoidably triggers our senses is THE BEDROOM. Not simply a room for sleep but a space we can experience a feeling of escapism and sanctuary; a room that can also inspire imagination and provide simple indulgence. The smallest of additions can make a dramatic difference to the look and feel of your bedroom.

Here we consider the impact of colour and textiles on our senses in the context of bedroom spaces:

a sense of TOUCH

Touch is thought to be the first sense that humans develop. It consists of several distinct sensations communicated to the brain through specialised neurons in the skin and can also influence how humans make decisions.

After everything we have all been through over the past 12 months, now is the time to reward yourself, so why not indulge your sense of touch by adding textural play to your bedroom. Snuggle up with one of our exquisite soft cashmere throws and forget about everything, even if only for a brief moment, other than deciding just how long you plan to cocoon yourself in a comforting cashmere hug.

a sense of SMELL

With a bed dressed to impress, it’s almost impossible to avoid diving into its softness and breathing in its splendour. We recommend complementing your bedlinen with a beautiful hand-printed double-sided quilt. Our selection of striking colours and prints are sure to suit any mood.

a sense of SEEING

Enlighten your vision by splashing colour into your bedroom scene. Colour is one of the aspects of design that stimulates many of our senses, triggering the release of endorphins which make us feel happy and contented. Now who doesn’t want that? Casually adorn a chair or sofa with one of our decorative Jamevar throws - make that piece of furniture a work of art rather than a clothes horse! Made from the softest of merino wool and refined with an elegant tassel edging, they come in a variety of vibrant colour ways.

We love to live life in colour so no need to stop there.  Our kantha quilts, intricately hand embroidered, are the perfect accessory to add a pop of colour and texture to your room instantly.

    a sense of HEARING

Listen to your inner ego when it tells you that you look fabulous! Dress up for the night – just because you are staying in doesn’t mean you can't make yourself feel good and look sensational!  We have a truly exquisite collection of kaftans arriving soon, with new patterns and colourways that we promise will invoke compliments a-plenty. Soft and generous against the skin, you’ll be counting down the hours until you can put it on (that’s if you even feel the need to take it off - #lockdownlife!)

      a sense of TASTE

Lastly, but equally as important as the other senses, sit back, relax and enjoy the taste of a glass of something delicious or simply bask in the knowledge that both you and your bedroom exude superb taste!
