Changing colours with the changing of the Seasons

Posted on October 11 2021

Summer is over...small sob...but we don't need to banish florals prints and beautiful colours from our homes. We might wave goodbye to pastels and lighter fabrics; lace tablecloths are stored gently away for another year but linens and cotton with heart warming colours can still adorn our tables.

The evenings maybe a bit cold to enjoy alfresco, we just need a few extra layers (and a brilliant excuse to buy soft cosy blankets, squidgy warming cossetting cushions and maybe even a glorious silk kimono with a quilted robe for when the sun goes down to allow for some glorious autumnal wafting through the garden).

Say goodbye to summer pastels

Tablescaping

Tables can be laden with darker pink or blue patterned cloths (blue is a great way of tricking the mind with associations of bright blue skies, it continues the happy alfresco theme and doesn't fall prey to the old-fashioned Autumn colour choice). Add chunky wooden accessories - maybe an antique dough bowl filled with Dahlias and Hydrangeas), use heavier rattan placemats and candle holders to inspire thoughts of harvest and add brightly coloured napkins, perhaps our gorgeous Neeli napkins with a jaunty ruffle or our Rani fringed beauties to add more texture and interest, take it a step further with a little bling and incorporate our beautifully embroidered Kamal napkins in metallic silver thread for a hint of sparkle.

Accessorise and maximise

Once the basics are on the table it is time to get creative: add brightly coloured candlesticks in jewel tones, break out from classic cream and use coloured candles to add height and radiance to the table. Employ our genius bowl and jug covers to bring even more fabulous colour and defeat the late fruit seeking wasps and supper stealing flies! Run riot with colour, alfresco entertaining allows us to be more exuberant and dramatic with colour, add as many colourful vases as possible and add garlands of ivy punctuated by dried hydrangeas, blackberries and rosehips, tie jolly ribbons to the back of chairs, fill jars with tea lights and give your guests an indulgent evening filled with colour and luxury and a sense of cosseting autumnal indulgence.

Luxe my Sitting room

The simplest form of introducing a hint of luxury and indulgence is with one of our Heritage Jamevar throws. These beauties are made from Merino wool so are super soft and super snuggly but they come in all forms of gloriously rich colours so you can easily pick one to match your existing decor. Maybe even throw caution to the wind and grab a sumptuous kantha throw - so easy to layer over a sofa and so heavenly to grab in the cooler evenings when it's time to snuggle up on the sofa with candles lit and hot toddy in hand.

For the faint of heart - although hopefully by now you are feeling a little braver about welcoming colour into your home - simply add some colourful candlesticks from our Kashmir collection in rich red and calming blue florals. Wrap up in an ikat scarf and begin to embrace the warmth of colour in these cooler months.

Embrace the Autumn

Let summer go with a whimper - it was very badly behaved - and it' s time to move on.  Let's celebrate the changing of the season, let's relish the last of the warm sunshine, revel in the beautiful light and decorate our homes and gardens with Autumn's rich colours.

Faro is exuberant living, and we hope to help you to add colour and sparkle to your Autumn decor!
