Alfresco Tablescapes This Spring & Summer

Posted on May 11 2026

The first warm evening of the year has a magic all its own.

The light turns golden, the garden comes alive, and suddenly every meal tastes better eaten outside. Whether it's a lazy Sunday brunch, a birthday lunch on the lawn, or a candlelit supper with friends, alfresco dining is one of life's genuine pleasures — and the right table setting turns a simple meal into a memory.

At FARO, we've been dressing tables for outdoor living since our earliest collections — drawing on centuries-old Indian craft traditions to bring colour and pattern to your spring and summer gatherings.

Here's how to we like to style alfresco tables, one considered layer at a time.

Start with the Foundation: A Tablecloth That Tells a Story:

The tablecloth is where your table's personality begins. For alfresco use, you want something that feels relaxed and beautiful at the same time — that can handle a warm breeze, a glass of rosé, and the occasional olive oil spillage without losing its charm.

Our block-print and embroidered tablecloths are made using traditional hand-printing techniques by artisan communities in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Each one is slightly unique — the natural variation in the print is proof of its handmade origins, and it's precisely what makes them so alive.

Styling tip: For spring, reach for lighter grounds — soft whites, warm creams, or pale pinks. In high summer, go bolder: deep indigos, marigold yellows, and vivid botanical prints celebrate the season without apology.

Layer In: Placemats & Table Runners:

One of the easiest ways to add visual depth to an outdoor table is to layer a table runner or placemats over your tablecloth. It breaks up the expanse of fabric, defines each place setting, and gives your table a curated, intentional feel.

Placemats and runners are woven and block-printed in coordinating palettes, so they sit beautifully alongside our tablecloths without feeling matchy-matchy. Mixing complementary prints is a fun way to dress a table, and it always draws a compliment.

Styling tip: For a relaxed garden lunch, a single long runner down the centre of a trestle table looks effortlessly stylish. Add a few votives and a handful of fresh herbs and you're done.

The Details That Elevate: Napkins & Napkin Rings:

The napkin is the detail guests actually touch — and feel.

A crisp, beautifully printed cloth napkin signals care and hospitality in a way that paper simply never can.

Our block-printed cotton napkins come in a range of  prints, and are made from natural cotton — practical for outdoor use and genuinely lovely to hold. Pair them with hand-crafted napkin rings for a finishing touch that feels considered without being fussy.

Styling tip: Don't feel compelled to match napkins to the tablecloth exactly. A slight contrast adds energy and warmth to the table.

Comfort Matters: Seat Pads for Alfresco Dining:

A beautiful table is only half the equation — your guests need to be comfortable, especially for those long, lingering summer lunches that turn into supper.  Seat pads and carry-along mats are one of the most practical and underrated pieces in the collection.

Crafted with the same attention to pattern and colour as the rest of the range, they sit beautifully on garden chairs, benches, and even on the grass for a more relaxed picnic-style spread. The added benefit: they double as carry-along mats for picnics in the park or lazy afternoons at the beach.

Styling tip: Choose seat pads in a shade that picks up a colour from your tablecloth — it ties the whole look together in an instant.

Light the Evening - Candle Holders for Golden Hour:

As the afternoon light fades and the swallows start swooping, there's nothing more beautiful than a table glowing with candlelight. Hand-painted candle holders, made from papier-mâché using traditional Kashmiri craft techniques, cast the most exquisite warm light.

They're lightweight, and — unlike glass — won't shatter if the evening breeze catches the table!
